Mommy & Me Photography in South Jersey
“I’ll just get pictures of the kids.”
I hear it all the time.
Maybe you don’t love the way you look right now. Maybe you want to lose a few pounds. Maybe you’re tired, your hair isn’t cooperating, or you’re perfectly happy staying behind the camera while I photograph your children.
Get in the picture anyway.
Because someday, those photographs aren't really going to be for you.
They’re going to be for them.
Your Kids Already Think You're Beautiful
Your children aren't looking at you and thinking about the things you criticize when you look in the mirror.
They see Mom.
The person who knows where everything is. The person they crawl into bed with. The person who fixes things, drives them everywhere, remembers what snack they like and somehow knows exactly where the missing shoe is.
They aren't going to look back at a photograph and wish you had lost ten pounds first.
They're going to be happy you're there.
You Are Part of Their Childhood
We take thousands of pictures of our kids.
First days of school. Vacations. Birthdays. Christmas mornings. Soccer games. Random Tuesday afternoons.
And somehow Mom is often the person taking them.
Scroll through your phone and see how many photographs you have of your children.
Now see how many beautiful photographs exist of you with them.
That's usually a very different number.
You aren't just documenting their childhood.
You're part of it.
You Don't Have to Look at the Camera
Some of my favorite photographs of moms with their children aren't traditional portraits at all.
They're laughing.
Walking together.
Dancing.
Little arms wrapped around Mom's neck.
A toddler reaching for her hand.
A quiet moment where nobody is paying attention to my camera.
Those photographs tell a story that a perfectly posed smile sometimes can't.
Someday They'll Notice the Little Things
The way you held them.
How small their hand looked inside yours.
How they fit against you when you picked them up.
The way you looked at them when they weren't paying attention.
Those things feel ordinary while we're living them.
Until they aren't.
Children grow, faces change and one day you realize you can't remember exactly when your child became too big to carry.
Photographs have a funny way of preserving things we didn't realize were disappearing.
So Get in the Picture, Mom
You don't need to wait until you lose the weight.
You don't need a new wardrobe.
You don't need perfect hair.
And you definitely don't need to know what to do in front of the camera.
That's my job.
Come as you are.
Hold your babies. Laugh with them. Chase them. Let them climb all over you.
Twenty years from now, nobody is going to care whether everything was perfect.
But someone may be incredibly grateful that Mom was in the picture too.
